First off let me say this; if you’re one of those guys who gets uneasy of the talk or thought of homosexuality, because perhaps you’re insecure and don’t know if you’re gay or not, DON’T keep reading. This ain’t for you.
My favorite song out right now is called “Stoner” and it’s from an artist who goes by the name of Young Thug. With a moniker like his, you wouldn’t think that he would be the topic of such controversial conversations. To put it simple? People believe that he’s gay. What’s making people talk even more is the possibility that he might be the first gay ‘gangsta rapper’ (I hate that term, by the way), due to his, uh, different sense of style and also because of some pretty questionable things he’s said to other rappers, such as calling them “babe” or his “lovers”. For these reasons, people in the hip-hop community feel like Thugger has something that he needs to tell us.
But here’s my thing…
If in fact Young Thug is gay, do we really care that much? If so, why? That man has arguably the hottest song in the streets right now, as well as in the clubs. You tellin’ me that if one day he announces that he’s gay, you’re going to stop listening to his music? Actually, I don’t know why I asked that, because I seen people do it with Frank Ocean. We all loved his music until he announced his sexual preference. The real ones stuck around even after he let us know, but the others stopped messin’ with him. To me, that’s corny.
If someone is good at what they do creatively and you enjoy it, their personal choices shouldn’t matter at all. That’s why I never liked that ‘coming out’ shit. The media fucked the game up for gay people when they made it as though they HAVE to let us know. For what? Why does someone’s sexual preference have to be a nationally televised news report? Now someone has to lose fans and maybe even money because they felt pressured into announcing something as personal as their sexuality? That’s weak.
Maybe Young Thug is gay. Maybe he isn’t. But by the looks of it, he’s smart. Maybe he actually gets it. Maybe he’ll be whatever he is, go his whole career without saying anything, and leave the talking and assumptions to everyone else; because maybe he understands that you don’t have to tell people anything in regards to your personal life, whether you’re famous or not.
Social acceptance should be based on what you contribute to society; not whether you like guys or girls.
